Best of... NYFW SS19

There’s no doubt that this NYFW was epic; there were bold prints, bold people, and bold ideas, a few of which I thought deserved some honorable mentions (mostly because I’m dying to get my hands on their pieces).

Carolina Herrera

Can I just say how much I appreciate the bold mixing of patterns and designs we’ve seen this season at NYFW? I mean we’ve got polka-dots with plaid and crocheted sweaters with slit-skirts… I’m here for it. Wes Gordon’s debut as Creative Director was a success, in my opinion. The line was laden with 70’s vibes with the incorporation of knee-high orange boots and large floral embroidery as well as boxy silhouettes strewn throughout. In addition, the bold yellow hues and “flower power” energy was strong in the statement, silk gowns that were a mainstay of the show. I can say without a doubt that this has to be my favorite collection of them all.

Favorite looks:

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs brought the heat with his collection. His exaggerated, whimsical numbers filled the space and rebelled against the confines of clean lines and rigid structure. After seeing Look #6, I had instant flashbacks to Zendaya’s block suit at the Vanity Fair and Lancome Paris Toast Women in Hollywood event in March. The combination of patterns, textures, and silhouettes left little to the imagination in the sense that each piece incorporated a little bit of everything where no further augmentation could have been fathomable. From ruffled collars to polka-dotted, one-shoulder blouses to 3D floral prints, Jacobs thought of it all and did an exceptional job at making “over the top” just the right amount.

Savage x Fenty

Who knew such tiny pieces could carry so much weight? The effect that the Savage x Fenty RTW line had had very little to do with the clothing (or lack thereof) and much more to do with empowering women of all colors, creeds, and backgrounds to feel beautiful in their own skin. Rihanna made it abundantly clear that she designed pieces to fit the women in her show rather than choosing women to fit her pieces, as we so often see.

Ummm is it even possible to choose?

Rodarte

Despite Mother Nature’s protests during the show, the Rodarte collection was exquisite and marked a perfect return to NYFW after two long (more like “too long”) years away. The pieces allowed for bold colors, rambunctious silhouettes, and Spanish cultural themes to take center stage. The incorporation of delicate lacework, ruffles, and crocheted pieces made it feel like the show was taking place in the streets of Madrid, not a rainy venue in New York.
